Pizza parties, team activities, even a mystery date – EM Residents’ Appreciation Day 2016 had it all, and “it all” raised the bar for an annual event designed to let you know how much you’re valued.
Though the actual date this year was March 2, resident appreciation events spanned more than a week as institutions across the country helped shine a light on the great work of emergency medicine residents.
Please enjoy this gallery of images from EM Residents’ Appreciation Day 2016. It’s not comprehensive, and it’s not a competition (although you might find some great ideas for next year). Search our hashtag – #EMDocsRock – on Twitter to catch up on additional celebrations. Plus, check out our Vimeo channel for some very special messages.
Thank you for all you do for the specialty!

Getting a head start on the annual event, Northwestern gifted its EM residents with snazzy jackets in time for the In-Training Exam.
The George Washington Emergency Medicine residency program celebrated in a variety of ways this year. During our weekly educational session, gift cards were raffled off to residents throughout the morning. Each raffle winner then acknowledged a co-resident they were especially appreciative of and why. We concluded our weekly Grand Rounds with a tasty Ice Cream Sundae Bar for the residents. In addition, the residents spent a fun-filled evening of friendly competition with program leadership at TopGolf. These events were just a small way to show appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication put forth by the George Washington Emergency Medicine residents!
The University of Rochester’s EM Residency Program celebrated by hosting an indoor volleyball tournament, because “EM residents are the best!”
Drexel’s EM residents were treated to a catered lunch and pizza deliveries to all 4 EDs from the program directors.
Noting that #EMDocsRock, faculty and staff put the writing on the wall to show Drexel’s EM residents how much they’re appreciated.
Nothing says “appreciation” like a fancy mystery date, found on Drexel’s wall of appreciation for residents.
